I like to replace the Verizon provided router with a TP-Link N600 router. The Verizon router simply does not have the range I need. I can't receive anything past 60 feet even in an absolutely empty space with no obstructions. Seems everything goes well setting up the TP lInk but the internet light never comes on.

Maybe they can provide the IP address that would show up in a router log of attempts to communicate. Also, cascading wireless routers will not share the same SSID. You will need to setup your routers to broadcast SSID's like "Home-Upstairs" and "Home-Basement".
